Factors Affecting Cotyledonal Cracking during the Germination of Beans (Phaseolus Vulgaris).
نویسنده
چکیده
Wlhile studying cotyledonal abnormality an unusual type of injury was observed in snap beans which had been carefully hand-picked and handshelled. The injury consisted of one or more transverse breaks which extended partially or completely across the cotyledon, severing the vascular elements, figure 1. Not only was the movement of materials into the seedling impeded by the breaks but the cotyledons remained swollen often preventing the shedding of the seed coat, figure 2. The fissures also provide a seat of infection for decay organisms.

Influence of germination on the nutritional quality of Phaseolus vulgaris and Cajanus cajan
Germination is a method that can modify the presence of nutrients and antinutrients in legume seeds. In this study, the changes in trypsin inhibitors activity (TIA), phytic acid, tannins, ascorbic acid, thiamine, protein digestibility and minerals in germinated black beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), white beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and pigeon beans (Cajanus cajan L. Millsp) were evaluated. The...
متن کاملInteraction of cold radiofrequency plasma with seeds of beans (Phaseolus vulgaris)
The impact of cold radiofrequency air plasma on the wetting properties and water imbibition of beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) was studied. The influence of plasma on wetting of a cotyledon and seed coat (testa) was elucidated. It was established that cold plasma treatment leads to hydrophilization of the cotyledon and tissues constituting the testa when they are separately exposed to plasma. By con...
متن کاملDegradation of the Major Storage Protein of Phaseolus vulgaris during Germination : Role of Endogenous Proteases and Protease Inhibitors.
Cotyledons from Phaseolus vulgaris L. (var. Improved Tendergreen) were tested for their activity on alpha-N-benzoyl-dl-arginine-p-nitroanilide (BAPNA) and azocasein during a germination periood of 10 days. Both activities increased throughout germination when activity was expressed on the basis of dry weight or protein. That these two activities were most likely due to the action of different e...
متن کاملCold Radiofrequency Plasma Treatment Modifies Wettability and Germination Speed of Plant Seeds
We report the possibility to modify the wetting properties of the surfaces of a diversity of seeds including: lentils (Lens culinaris), beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) and wheat (Triticum, species C9) by cold radiofrequency air plasma treatment. Air plasma treatment leads to the dramatic decrease in the apparent contact angle. Moreover, the speed of germination and yield (germination rate) of seeds ...
متن کاملMorpho-Physiological Characterization Related to Drought Tolerance of Common Bean (Phaseolus Vulgaris L.) Genotypes
Drought is one of the limiting factor in common bean, development of common bean varieties that adapted to drought situations is the main focus for improving food crops. In this study, 25 genotypes of common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) were grown under drought stress and non-stress conditions. The field work was conducted at Melkassa Agricultural Research Center during the off-season that lai...
